Arbor Day & Earth Day

Picture
The Elm Grove Garden Club takes pride in the beautiful parks and trees we have in our village. As the large mature Elm Trees continue to succumb to Dutch Elm disease, replacing them has become important to a community that has been a Tree City USA for more than 20 years. Our members support and help to plant trees in the village park or the club recognizes Earth Day in various ways.

Memorial Day Parade

The club participates in the annual Elm Grove Memorial Day Parade with their very own entry/float. They work together in designing and preparing the entry with flowers (silk and fresh), then members either ride or walk the parade route promoting the Garden Club. Packets of Black-Eyed Susan(the Elm Grove flower) seeds are distributed to the viewing public.

Tour le Jardin - Garden Walk

Picture
In conjunction with the Elmbrook and Mayfair Park Garden Clubs, our club organizes an annual tour the last Saturday in July. Participating on the tour are 6 or more gardens that are owned and maintained by residents in the local community. Not only is this a fun way to meet people with similar interests but also an excellent opportunity for inspirational ideas by seeing what others are doing in their yards. Funds raised from ticket sales are applied to the scholarships and to the service activities of the club.

Annual Tea Party

Held in October, this is a not-to-be-missed fund raiser and social gathering for the community. Club members not only use their culinary talents to serve a fabulous tea/lunch, they provide the setting and floral display for the tables too. This year 2009, celebrates the club's 75th anniversary. The event will be held at the Sunset Playhouse who is celebrating their 50th anniversary. Our 2009 theme: Sweet Remembrances
